Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 Turbo
The new Subaru Impreza WRX is now on sale in Spain with four-door sedan body and family (Sport Wagon). Replaces the former Impreza GT 2.0 Turbo and contains changes to the exterior and interior design, mechanical modifications and equipment level.
Despite being an extremely efficient drive sport driving in Subaru have taken an important turn in the new Impreza WRX. Suspensions are softer now; change has increased its level of comfort and drivability but has limited its effectiveness in extreme driving.
The need to meet Euro 3 legislation has forced some changes that have reduced emissions without sacrificing power. Thus, maintaining the same, 218 hp at 5,800 rpm and has increased the torque from 290 Nm at 4,000 rpm to 292 at 3,600 rpm. Subaru speaks of improved performance and fuel economy, but the truth is that the numbers are almost equaled approved. Like the previous model, the new Impreza 2.0 WRX is a car that stands out for its low power consumption, but for its high performance.
Got to improve comfort, Subaru has made improvements to the structure, suspension, brakes and wheels, in order to maintain its effectiveness.
With regard to the former Impreza GT, the body of four-door WRX has grown in length (4.40 m) and width (1.73 m). Interestingly, this version is also wider Sedan the WRX Sport Wagon family. The wheelbase is unchanged compared with the previous model.
The Impreza WRX is distinguished by a redesigned front grille and headlights. The side flaps are bulky because of the greater width of the roads and tires. Has on the bonnet air intake to cool the intercooler and the four-door model may have a new optional rear spoiler (80,000 pesetas approximately). The Sport Wagon version has a double standard on the rear spoiler.
The dashboard is new and has increased the equipment, especially the passive safety: dual front airbags, front side airbags, pretensioners with load limiters for the front seatbelts, three belts three points in the rear seats and dual Side bar protection on all four doors.
All these changes have led to a slight increase in the price of the new Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 Turbo, which used to cost the same in the two bodies and not now. The Sport Wagon family is a bit more expensive.
This car will continue to represent Subaru in the World Rally Championship from 2001, with a new Subaru Impreza WRC (now four doors) which adopts a design similar to the model premiered WRX Street. For now, the Impreza is only available from 218 hp, but the middle of next year versions come with the 2.0 16V 125 hp naturally aspirated.
