Kitchen Contractors: Answers You Need Before Signing
Hiring kitchen contractors to do some remodeling doesnt have to be a hair-pulling hassle. As long as you get some good recommendations before you make the hire, you should be fine in the long run. However, it isnt always that easy. Perhaps youve had to simply choose a company out of the phone book. If thats the case, then there are some answers you should have in hand before you sign on the dotted line.
Hiring kitchen contractors to do some remodeling doesnt have to be a hair-pulling hassle. As long as you get some good recommendations before you make the hire, you should be fine in the long run. However, it isnt always that easy. Perhaps you dont know anyone that can recommend a company to you. Perhaps youve had to simply choose a company out of the phone book. If thats the case, then there are some answers you should have in hand before you sign on the dotted line.Make sure you are able to get a free work estimate before you proceed with kitchen contractors. There are too many companies out there willing to do this service in the name of getting good customers that you should settle for anything less. A free estimate gives you the information you need to move forward, to compare on price, and to prepare your wallet for what is to come. Its unfair to expect a customer to pay for an estimate, and you should not think of doing it. If a contractor feels they are too good to provide a free estimate, go find one who will. You wont have to look far.
Find out who you will be dealing with and establish a working relationship with that person. Youll want that person to be someone you can talk to and get along with. Often, the person youre dealing with in the beginning will be a salesman and you wont see them again for the duration of the project. Figure out who is in charge of customer relations and get on a first name basis with that person. If you have concerns or if issues should arise, you want that person to be willing and able to help you.
Its customary for kitchen contractors to be able to provide you with some references on request. Whether you choose to call those references is up to you (obviously if they are being provided, they arent going to say anything bad about the company), but you should ask for them all the same. If a company cant provide them, then you have to ask yourself why. Is remodeling work of a confidential nature? Not really. There are only two reasons why a company would not have references. One, they are too new to the business to have built them up or, two, none of their customers would have anything nice to say. Either situation warrants concern.
