A kitchen remodel can be an extremely stressful situation, no matter what kind of project you're undertaking. Whether you're looking at doing everything at once or you're breaking your remodel into small steps to help with budgeting, being prepared can help alleviate the stress of cabinet resurfacing, buying new appliances and more.

Replacing The Sink And Faucet Can Provide A New Look Without Spending A Lot

If you can't afford to replace the countertops entirely, you can usually replace the sink and faucet yourself in just a day or two for just a couple hundred dollars. Before tackling this project, check to make sure you have water shut off valves underneath your sink. If you don't, you're going to be faced with shutting off the water to your entire home while you undertake this project, which can make it all the more stressful. If you don't have shut off valves, consider installing them yourself or calling a local handyman or plumber to do it for you -- you'll likely be glad you did.

When buying the sink and the faucet, you have a lot of options. From deep single bowl sinks, to a 70/30 split sink that features one large side and one smaller, shallow side, your possibilities are nearly endless. No matter what you choose, select your sink and faucet at the same time to ensure that you're not purchasing a sink with one hole and a faucet that requires three.

Cabinet Resurfacing Is Cheaper Than Replacing

If replacing the cabinetry in your kitchen isn't an option because of cost, you're not stuck with your old cabinetry. Cabinet resurfacing is an excellent alternative to replacement and there are two different types of cabinet resurfacing to choose from: cabinet refacing and refinishing. Cabinet refinishing is the less expensive option since it uses the existing structure, doors and drawers. During the cabinet refinishing process, the frame, doors and drawers are all sanded down and a new finish or paint is applied. Cabinet refacing, on the other hand, replaces the doors and drawers. New ones are ordered and a new veneer is applied to the structure of the cabinetry to match the new drawers and doors. In both cases, new hinges and hardware can further improve the look of your improved cabinetry.

Choose Appliances One At A Time For The Best Deals

If you're choosing appliances, you might be tempted to go into a big box store and choose the same brand for everything. Although this can be one of the easiest ways to choose appliances, it's not often the best. After all, a company that makes a great refrigerator might not make the best dishwasher. Instead, research each appliance individually and choose the one that's best. If you choose the same finish (such as all black or all stainless steel appliances), you'll get continuity in the look, but still have the best available for your dishwasher, microwave, stove and refrigerator.

If an entire set of appliances isn't in your budget, choosing each one individually can also allow you to shop around and wait for sales. Many people buy an entire suite of appliances at once because they're concerned the brand will discontinue the suite before they can afford to purchase each piece. Buying them without worrying about the brand will allow you to purchase them on your own timeline.

These are only a few of the many ways you can complete a kitchen remodel. A new sink and faucet, resurfaced cabinetry and new appliances can go a long way toward improving the look of your kitchen and being prepared for the process can help lessen the stress that's sure to be involved in your remodel.
